Despite a slight decrease in fall enrollment, Georgia Highlands College is reporting record graduation numbers and a new economic impact of over $181 million.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

GHC\u00a0<\/span>awarded<\/span>\u00a0943 degrees during its commemorative 50<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0graduation ceremony, which also kicked off the college\u2019s 50<\/span>th\u00a0<\/span>anniversary year. This was a 14% increase in graduates over the previous graduation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In addition to celebrating GHC\u2019s 50<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0class since the college\u2019s inception as Floyd Junior College in 1970, GHC reported a significant increase\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>its<\/span>\u00a0economic impact. GHC has seen steady economic impact growth for the last five years and now\u00a0<\/span>holds<\/span>\u00a0the second highest economic impact among state colleges in Georgia.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The University System of Georgia (USG) recently released\u00a0<\/span>the USG\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0newest total economic impact on the state of Georgia. Of the more than $18 billion reported by the\u00a0<\/span>USG as a whole, Georgia Highlands<\/span>\u00a0College\u2019s contribution was over $181 million.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The USG report is for Fiscal Year 2019 and is conducted by the Selig Center for Economic Growth\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0the University of Georgia\u2019s Terry College of Business.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

GHC\u2019s economic impact was exactly: $181,400,770<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This represents an increase of over $4 million from the Fiscal Year 2018 report.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the USG report, a Class of 2019 graduate is predicted to earn $888,563 more over the course of their career as a result of their degree from a USG institution. Additionally, the annual economic impact study revealed every dollar spent by USG institutions generates an additional 47 cents for the regional economy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The USG also<\/span>\u00a0recently<\/span>\u00a0reported enrollment numbers showing an increase in enrollment overall in the system yet a slight decline of 7% among\u00a0<\/span>all\u00a0<\/span>state college enrollment.
