{"id":10921,"date":"2021-06-04T09:22:07","date_gmt":"2021-06-04T13:22:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.highlands.edu\/?p=10921"},"modified":"2021-06-04T09:22:07","modified_gmt":"2021-06-04T13:22:07","slug":"three-ghc-coaches-named-coach-year-gcaa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.highlands.edu\/2021\/06\/04\/three-ghc-coaches-named-coach-year-gcaa\/","title":{"rendered":"Three GHC coaches named \u201cCoach of the Year\u201d by GCAA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three athletic coaches at Georgia Highlands College (GHC) were recently named \u201cCoach of the Year\u201d by the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA).<\/p>\n<p>Brandan Harrell was selected as \u201cCoach of the Year for Women\u2019s Division I Basketball.\u201d JJ Merritt was named \u201cCoach of the Year for Men\u2019s Division I Basketball.\u201d And Dash O\u2019Neill was named \u201cCoach of the Year for Men\u2019s Division I Baseball.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReceiving these awards means that our coaches are respected across our conference and are working hard to make their respective sports successful both on the field or court and in the classroom,\u201d GHC Director of Athletics David Mathis said.<\/p>\n<p>The GCAA is a collegiate athletic conference and is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) \/ Region XVII. The GCAA&#8217;s twelve members are comprised of four-year colleges, two-year community colleges and technical colleges. GCAA members compete in fifteen sports for both men and women.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cCoach of the Year\u201d awards are voted on by the other coaches in the conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur coaches have been through one of the toughest years due to COVID and other obstacles, but they have done a remarkable job,\u201d Mathis said. \u201cThey have had the health and safety of our student athletes as a priority and have been successful both athletically and academically.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three athletic coaches at Georgia Highlands College (GHC) were recently named \u201cCoach of the Year\u201d by the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA).
