{"id":4819,"date":"2016-11-11T11:31:26","date_gmt":"2016-11-11T15:31:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.highlands.edu\/?p=4819"},"modified":"2016-11-11T11:31:26","modified_gmt":"2016-11-11T15:31:26","slug":"ghc-named-top-military-friendly-college-fourth-time-last-five-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.highlands.edu\/2016\/11\/11\/ghc-named-top-military-friendly-college-fourth-time-last-five-years\/","title":{"rendered":"GHC named a Top Military Friendly College for the fourth time in the last five years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Military\u00a0Advanced Education<\/em>\u00a0&amp;\u00a0<em>Transition<\/em>\u00a0(<em>MAE&amp;T<\/em>) has awarded Georgia Highlands College the designation of a Top School in its 2017\u00a0<em>MAE&amp;T\u00a0<\/em>Guide to Colleges &amp; Universities, measuring best practices in\u00a0military\u00a0and veteran education. GHC was also recognized by MAE in the 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016 editions.<\/p>\n<p>The Guide will be released late December, and is available online at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mae-kmi.com\/\">www.mae-kmi.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Guide presents results of a questionnaire of the\u00a0military-supportive policies enacted at more than 600 institutions, including private, public, for-profit, not-for-profit, four-year, and two-year colleges. From community colleges to state universities, online universities and nationally known centers of higher learning,\u00a0<em>MAE&amp;T\u2019s<\/em>\u00a02016 Guide to Colleges &amp; Universities arms students with information about institutions that go out of their way to give back to our men and women in uniform.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its tenth year of publishing the Guide,\u00a0<em>MAE&amp;T<\/em>\u00a0was the first publication to launch a reference tool of this type. This year, institutions were evaluated on their\u00a0<strong>military\u00a0culture, financial aid, flexibility, general support, on-campus support and online support services<\/strong>. Each school\u2019s performance rating by category is represented by an easy-to-recognize dashboard. This enables prospective students to quickly target schools that follow best practices in\u00a0military\u00a0education, and then put these in context with other academic or career considerations.<\/p>\n<p>With input from an advisory board of educational and government experts, and criteria based on recommendations from the VA and\u00a0military\u00a0services,\u00a0<em>MAE&amp;T\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0Guide to Colleges and Universities provides the foundational information a prospective student would use in framing his or her educational needs.<\/p>\n<p>Not only is the 2017 Guide printed in the December issue of\u00a0<em>Military\u00a0Advanced Education &amp;Transition<\/em>, but also published in a searchable database online.
