{"id":8047,"date":"2019-02-26T10:43:20","date_gmt":"2019-02-26T15:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.highlands.edu\/?p=8047"},"modified":"2019-02-26T10:44:52","modified_gmt":"2019-02-26T15:44:52","slug":"cartoon-network-executive-speaks-ghc-african-american-influences-cartoons-comics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.highlands.edu\/2019\/02\/26\/cartoon-network-executive-speaks-ghc-african-american-influences-cartoons-comics\/","title":{"rendered":"Cartoon Network Executive speaks at GHC about African American Influences in cartoons and comics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Georgia Highlands College is hosting Cartoon Network\u2019s Mark McCray at each of its locations for a special lecture series about African American influences in cartoons and comics this week.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>McCray is a senior manager of programming operations for Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network, overseeing Adult Swim\u2019s on-air promotion and scheduling strategy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>His presentation discusses how Saturday morning programming competition fueled an animation boom that resonated across television; how black characters evolved in cartoons and comics; how Saturday morning marketing strategy impacted black youth in America; and how African American professionals fare in today\u2019s animation businesses.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Prior to Adult Swim, McCray helped launch the Boomerang Network and worked as a television programmer for Cartoon Network.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He is the author of \u201cThe Best Saturdays of Our Lives,\u201d which chronicles the origins of competitive Saturday morning programming.
