{"id":9543,"date":"2020-02-18T11:45:32","date_gmt":"2020-02-18T16:45:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.highlands.edu\/?p=9543"},"modified":"2020-02-18T11:45:32","modified_gmt":"2020-02-18T16:45:32","slug":"ghc-screening-civil-rights-movement-documentary-black-history-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.highlands.edu\/2020\/02\/18\/ghc-screening-civil-rights-movement-documentary-black-history-month\/","title":{"rendered":"GHC screening civil rights movement documentary for Black History Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Georgia Highlands College will be screening a hour-long civil rights movement documentary at the Cartersville site for Black History Month this Sunday (Feb. 23) from 3:30PM to 5:30PM in the Student Center Ballroom.<\/p>\n<p>The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The documentary is called \u201cSummer Hill: A Story of Community.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) notes the documentary \u201cis a compelling look at the influence of one small, tightly knit community\u2013its school, churches and civic leaders\u2013on its residents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>GPB went on to say the town of Summer Hill, which inspires the documentary, \u201cproduced many professionals, including Georgia&#8217;s first black Supreme Court justice, a famous Motown songwriter, teachers, ministers, doctors and lawyers\u2026 [and in] compelling interviews, the people of Summer Hill tell the empowering story of their community and reveal its lasting legacy of hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The GHC Black History Month event, called \u201cAn Afternoon on Summer Hill: A Conversation about Community, Education, and Excellence,\u201d will also include an interview with Summer Hill High School alumni Calvin Cooley and Bibby Morgan.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For more information about attending the event, you may send questions to GHC Assistant Professor Sean Callahan at scallaha@highlands.edu<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Georgia Highlands College will be screening a hour-long civil rights movement documentary at the Cartersville site for Black History Month this Sunday (Feb. 23) from 3:30PM to 5:30PM in the Student Center Ballroom.
