Business Profile Program
Staff have been busy reviewing applications from Members interested in becoming the first companies profiled in our new Business Profile program, and are happy to announce the 12 finalists selected by the Board at its meeting last week: Arts on Ten, Auberge Gilles B&B, ColourPix, Enviran Auto Service, Flesherton Concrete Products (Fleshcon), Grey County Real Estate, Rocklyn Inn Bed & Breakfast, Rural Net, Sea & Ski Realty, South Grey News, The Flying Chestnut Kitchen, and The Market Shoppe.
We will be reaching out to these Members to finalize write-ups and arrange photography, and we look forward to promoting these Grey Highlands companies across various media. Our ultimate goal is to profile all our Members in the coming year.
Federal All Candidates Meeting
All candidates will be in attendance on September 26 at the Centre Grey Recreation Complex in Markdale as the Chamber hosts our area’s five federal candidates and presents your questions. We are pleased to announce the evening’s moderator will be President/Executive Director of Grey County Agricultural Services Ray Robertson. Ray has experience in this role and we are excited that he has accepted our offer.
Plans for our Chamber AGM on October 24 are taking shape. We’re pleased to announce that our keynote speaker will be inspiring and entertaining Chris Hughes of BC Hughes, a tourism development, management and marketing firm. The evening will be open to the public, and we would be grateful for a free will donation and or a Food Bank donation.
Please remember to contact the Chamber Officer with your nominations for the 2019 Senior Citizen of the Year, Citizen of the Year, Junior Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year. It’s your opportunity to show your appreciation for community involvement.
“Name It” Contest
A new Asian restaurant is THIIIIIIIS close to opening in Markdale and we’ve joined with owner Henry Ho to hold a contest to name it! Watch here for more details next week, but what we can tell you now is that the contest will begin August 28, and the prize will be dinner for four on opening night.
Made in Grey
Made in Grey partners, do you want to showcase your agri-food products for FREE at the Royal Winter Agricultural Fair in 2019?
The Royal and Metro Ontario grocery stores have partnered to focus on local food at this year’s Royal Winter Fair. As part of the new Spotlight On Local initiative, the Counties of Simcoe, Grey and Bruce are bringing a booth to the Exhibition Place, Toronto from November 1 to 10, 2019, and you’re invited to take part. Space is limited, and spots are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so waste no time in contacting Grey County’s Economic Development Officer – Local Products, Philly Markowitz, at Philly.Markowitz@grey.ca.
If you produce, sell or work with Grey County agri-food in some way, but aren’t yet a Made in Grey partner, there’s still time to get involved. Again, contact Philly.
The Municipal deadline for public input on a campground bylaw for Grey Highlands is August 26. The latest Municipal Official Plan permits, in rural zones, resource-based recreational uses that include campgrounds. To move forward, however, the Municipality must develop and enact bylaws for their operations. The Chamber recognizes the need for campgrounds in Grey Highlands, and will bring this to the Municipality.
We comment on this as our goal is to promote and improve trade and commerce, and the civic and social welfare of Grey Highlands.
