Back to School
As we prepare the kids to go back to school, we hope this season of increased shopping has stimulated your retails sales. It’s time for our summer student, Nicole, to head off to college in Orillia. We wish her every success and thank her for her help. Kate FitzPatrick will keep the Chamber Office on extended summer hours for one last week. Have a great Labour Day long weekend.
The annual Flesherton Fling and Markdale Fall Fair were held this past weekend and were blessed with good weather. Crowds were great and we extend our thanks to the huge number of volunteers that make these events possible. As in previous years, we were pleased to sponsor the cost of printing the brochure and poster for the Flesherton Fling. The date for next year’s Fling has already been set so mark your calendar: August 8, 2020.
Members of the Chamber Board visited the Markdale Fall Fair to sell our annual fundraising effort lottery tickets and chat with Chamber Members and community members alike on topics at mind. There’s $2,000 in Shell gift cards up for grabs and only 1,000 tickets available. This annual fundraising event needs everyone’s participation to help maintain the financial sustainability of our Chamber. Please call 519-986-4612 to get your tickets or to volunteer.

A Meeting of Minds
A Chamber team and the Municipality’s Community Development staff have established a monthly meeting program at our Office to share ideas and provide Chamber feedback on items within our mandate. We look forward to this enhanced relationship.
Regional Chamber of Commerce
The second meeting of area Chamber reps took place last week in Lora Bay in the Town of the Blue Mountains. Guest speaker Terry McPherson, Vice President of Member Services from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, told attendees of his organization’s desire for feedback from our Chambers as they begin to develop an enhanced strategic plan that would extend Chamber capabilities. As part of this area Chamber group – along with Owen Sound, the Town of the Blue Mountains, and Saugeen Shores – we are emboldened by their advocacy efforts on our behalf at Queen’s Park.
Reminder to Profiling Members
If you’re one of the companies selected to be profiled among the first batch of Members, please get your background information into the Office soon. We’re anxious to fulfil our commitment to make you look your best.
One of the Chamber’s newest members, Rocklyn Inn, had its grand opening last Thursday evening. Our president attended and highly recommends Rocklyn Inn for your visiting friends or relatives or your own staycation. Chamber membership, by the way, has grown to 115.
