THREE EVENTS DOWN, ONE TO GO
Two weeks ago we held our Annual General Meeting and last week both Markdale’s Moonlight Madness (Fri., Nov. 27) and Markdale’s Santa Parade (Sat., Nov. 28). We’ve got one more event in our pocket – Flesherton’s Festive Friday on Fri., Dec. 4.
This past Friday, Markdale’s stores and restaurants were open late with sales, special menus, and samples. Shopkeepers and restauranteurs reported the town was bustling despite the drizzly weather, and sales were positive. Hot chocolate, hot apple cider, and happy people passing in the streets and spending a moment to catch up with neighbours and friends…somehow you could see the smiles beneath the masks. We all thank you for your support of local businesses.
The sunny, brisk weather was a wonderful setting awaiting Santa and his Mrs. on Saturday. So, what happens when you mix 19 floats, 32 volunteers, a highly supportive Municipal staff, happy and warm drivers, and of course Santa and Mrs. Claus? A joyful Markdale Santa Parade that brought smiles to over a thousand visitors!
Volunteers, you gave your time, energy, and positive spirit. Bechan ladies, you made great joke posters that got car-fulls laughing. Float folks, you made fun, imaginative floats, sang out Merry Christmas, and danced for over two hours unfailingly, and many of you even helped us provide goodies from Santa for the kids. Drivers, you met us wearing smiles and elf hats, making us smile back and long enough to greet the next car. Together we made a delightful, festive, uplifting afternoon. The Chamber thanks you.
Chamber Member Sea & Ski Realty offered many locals beautiful memories in the form of COVID-safe Santa photos in the heart of Markdale after the parade. This took a lot of planning and ingenuity in the midst of this pandemic. Sea & Ski was determined to make it happen for our community and they certainly succeeded. Not only were many families overjoyed, but Santa waved to passersby between photos and received many a happy horn honk in response.
This weekend kicks off with Flesherton’s Festive Friday, when the town’s shops and restaurants will welcome you later in the evening and offer specials, hot chocolate and goodies, crafts for the kids, and a strolling Santa. Grab your mask and plan to support our local proprietors. Flesherton’s four corners will be the place to be Friday night!
