*** Shop Local Program *** Shop Local, Explore Local *** 50/50 Draw *** Mark Your Calendar ***

A new, coordinated shop local program will begin rolling out over the next month across the County, urging you to “shop at the store with a door” and keep your dollars supporting the community you live in.

Nine local Chambers and municipalities, including our Chamber, have applied for and received approval for a grant that will provide funds to launch this multimedia initiative and run it to the end of the year. Each partner will benefit with enhanced services to expand our communication tools.

First off, an admittance of error. Last week’s Eugenia focus claimed Hogg’s Falls was in Eugenia but alas, I erred. Sorry, Flesherton.

To make it up to you, Flesherton, this week, we explore Flesherton.

Did you know…

Flesherton once had two hotels in town? The Park House was built in 1908 and opened as a “temperance” hotel, catering to those seeking an alcohol-free environment. The Munshaw Hotel, constructed in 1849, continues operating today. In its early pioneer days, life in Flesherton revolved around the establishment, and before churches were erected the Munshaw’s bar room closed to act as a temporary meeting place for Sunday religious activities.

Flesherton was so named for local grist mill operator William Kingston Flesher. Flesherton Pond was created as a mill pond for his mill. The pond was a source for ice for hotels and the butcher shop prior to refrigeration. The Fleshers had a house on the pond in the village’s early days.

The Chamber has a walking tour of Flesherton that you can pick up from our Office, and from various tourism ambassadors around the municipality.

The Chamber supports these Flesherton businesses: AgriTax Solutions, ARTSONTEN, Bernard’s Quality Cars, Colpeppers Ltd., Colton’s Garage, Curious Guide, Eco-Refillary, Enviran Auto Service, Eleanor Design & Marketing, Flesherton Concrete Products, Highland Grounds, Hutchinson Automotive, Ideal Supply Inc., Leelas Village Inn, Life Directions, Local Colour, Marina Brown, Nicol Insurance, Nuts & Volts Inc., P.T Custom Carpentry, Park House Solutions, Remax High Country Realty – Flesherton, Royal LePage RCR Flesherton, Rural Net Internet, South East Grey Support Services, Southwinds Engineering Inc., Sparlings Propane, Speaking Volumes Books, Talisa Haskins, The Bicycle Café, The Flesherton Commons, The Mortgage Centre (Hometown Financial), The Trophy Craft House, and Universal Builders.
